A highlight early on in the 2019-20 school year was the donation of brand-new warm winter coats for every student at Beverly Park. The coats came through a generous partnership with corporate sponsor Abercrombie and Fitch and Operation Warm. Every student loved their new coat!
Beverly Park also became a CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) School. CEP schools are able to serve free meals to all students, regardless of income, and eliminates concerns of unpaid meal debt. Our students also benefit from the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) receiving free fresh fruits and vegetables in their classrooms and encouraging healthy nutritious lifestyles.
We implemented a new Math program San Francisco Unified School District Mathematics. This program supports all students making sense of rigorous mathematics in ways that are creative, interactive and relevant to their lives and their classrooms today. Students explore multiple ways to solve problems while learning efficient procedures and sharing about their thinking.
We focus on English Language Learning while encouraging student’s multilingualism and using all their language tools to make meaning of learning and improve their metalinguistic awareness.
Reading Partners, a well-established program at Beverly Park, was showcased to the Seattle media for its impact in supporting young readers. Reading Partners is a community-based volunteer tutoring program supporting striving readers in grades K-4. In the 2019-20 school year, more than 53 community volunteers spent time twice weekly reading and supporting 63 students to improve their love and skill for reading!
We continued to utilize Positive Behavior Supports and RULER to address student’s social and emotional wellbeing at school. Teachers and staff promoted positive, respectful interactions to encourage a sense of belonging in a positive learning community. Teachers implemented research based restorative practices in their class meetings to foster respectful relationships, agreements, routines and student-centered problem solving.
We continued to monitor daily attendance and encourage students and families to regularly attend school. Students were recognized for their attendance efforts. Research confirms that regular school attendance directly affects long term student success.
We celebrated strong community partnerships alongside our Family Engagement Team, which sponsors monthly Family Fun Nights to promote family connections. Families enjoyed community potlucks, literacy and math celebrations, and Family Fitness Night.
Students participated in a different format of academic support through online continuous distance learning with the help of their teachers and staff. All did a great job adjusting and learning in a very new way.
The Highline Schools Foundation sponsored Beverly Park with shoe donations in every size and color through their Kicks for Kids program and family support during Covid19 for those in need.
